The Locals

Here is a list of some of the places I like to shop to support the local food system.  This list will continue to grow as I explore more local resources and learn more about area farms and co-ops.  This is just a start...

syracuserealfood.coop

If you're not paying attention, you might drive right by this small co-op in the University area.  Please don't miss it though, it has a wide variety of organic, locally grown produce among other organic grocery items.  They sell the greatest coffee I have ever tasted (I'm not kidding) and a host of local craft beers.  There's really something for everyone at the Syracuse Real Food Co-op, so go check it out!

This organic farm is located in Pulaski, NY and takes part in a CSA program.  If you're not familiar with this, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and it's a great way to be a part of the food production process.  Check out the website for more information on becoming a part of a local farm and enjoying some food that's not only good for you, but good for the environment too!

The reasons why I love this place are really endless.  They are a locally owned winery in the small town of Naples, NY.  Naples is located on the south end of Canandaigua Lake, a place I have spent every summer for my entire life.  This winery not only makes phenomenal wine, but emphasizes sustainability in everything they do as well as offers a fairly wide selection of locally made foods in their gift shop.  If you're ever passing through Naples, I highly recommend stopping in, you'll be glad you did.

www.nyfarmersmarket.com

This website is a great resource to finding out information about farmers' markets in your area.  It's run by the Farmer's Market Federation and offers resources for both farmers and consumers.  Now you have no excuse not to find a farmer's market near you!

wwww.reevesfarms.net

This farm is a great resource for fresh produce grown in a sustainable manner.  You can check out their farm stand in Baldwinsville, NY, pick your own blueberries, or look for their products in area grocery stores.
